Tambourine Lesson.

Dear Aunt Becca,

Mommy said you applied to music school.  I hope you get in, but in the meantime, I thought you might like a music lesson.  Mommy took pictures so you could understand everything.

Today, we’re going to learn all about tambourines!  Pay no attention to the piano in the background.  If you study hard, that can be another lesson.

A tambourine is a circle with jingly things around the edge.

It’s a percussion instrument, which means you play it by hitting.

If you blow into it,nothing happens.

The tambourine is super easy, so you can even play it if you’re stoned.

When people play the tambourine, they mostly shake it.You can shake it up high,or down low,or way off to the side.

If you want it to be quiet, you stop it with your other hand.

Good job!  You’ll have the shaking part mastered in no time.  The other way to play a tambourine is by hitting.  You can bang it against the furniture,or you can hold it in one hand while you hit it with the other hand.

See, I told you it was easy!

If you practice lots, maybe we can play together at our next family reunion!  I can’t wait to teach you all about music.  Mommy said she’d buy me a washboard next!

Love,
Meghan
